USDA issues health alert for Trader Joe's product for possible rock contamination

U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert over a Trader Joe's frozen ready-to-eat chicken pilaf product because it could contain rocks.

The product, named "Trader Joe’s Chicken, Lentil, & Caramelized Onion Pilaf WITH SAFFRON BASMATI RICE, DARK CHICKEN MEAT, DATES & GOLDEN RAISINS” was not requested for a recall because the product is no longer available for purchase.

The discovery of the contamination came when multiple customers complained to the grocery retailer about rocks being in the frozen RTE meals. One consumer even reported a dental injury when consuming the product, the government agency stated. No additional injuries or illnesses transpired, according to the FSIS.
