The University of South Florida's Sarasota-Manatee campus is accepting applications for students to live in the campus' first residential building that is set to open for the fall 2024 semester, according to a news release.

The 100,000-square-foot, $42 million building will house about 200 students, according to the announcement. Construction began in March, with USF Sarasota-Manatee seeking to shed its distinction as a commuter school with the opening of on-campus living options. The campus sits across the street from the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport and just north of New College of Florida.

The new residences come in three configurations: A double suite with one bathroom for $1,297 a month, or $5,188 a semester, a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment for $1,648 a semester, or $6,592 a semester, or a four-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, for $1,505 a month, or $6,020 a semester.

The top four floors of the six-story building will be dedicated to housing, while the bottom two floors will house a new student center, making space for services that have "outgrown their quarters elsewhere on campus." The building will also include a dining hall, laundry facilities, mail center, game room, ballroom, meeting rooms, study lounges, campus bookstore and offices for student government, according to the release.

The current dining center, the Café in the Crosley Campus Center, will be renovated to serve as a teaching lab for students in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, according to the release.

Karen Holbrook, the campus' regional chancellor, said the construction has created a buzz on campus among students and faculty.

"The student center and residence hall are designed entirely to help our students create a new type of experience, a new type of community on the Sarasota-Manatee campus,” Holbrook said. “I am thrilled that we are now able to offer our students this wonderful opportunity."
