AUSTIN (KXAN) — She’s currently playing point guard for the Longhorns, but freshman Madison Booker is one of 10 finalists for the Cheryl Miller Award for the best small forward in women’s college basketball.
The 6-foot-1 Booker was forced into taking over the offense after Rori Harmon suffered a knee injury before the Big 12 Conference schedule began, but she began the season as the team’s starting small forward.
Defensive struggles cost UT Women’s hoops in loss to rival Oklahoma
Booker is the team’s leading scorer at 15.1 points per game, but in Big 12 games, she’s averaging 19.4 points per game and is second in the conference. In Big 12 games, Booker is averaging 6.9 rebounds, six assists and almost two steals per game.
Booker is the only Big 12 player included on the 10-player award finalist list.
The award, named for four-time All-American and three-time Naismith player of the year Cheryl Miller, has been given out since 2018. Iowa State’s Ashley Joens has won the award for three consecutive years.
