UT women’s basketball moves up to No. 3 in AP poll
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On the heels of an eight-game winning streak, the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team moved up in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings released Monday.
The Longhorns are now No. 3 in the country after both Stanford and Iowa dropped spots in the poll. Texas moved up two slots to No. 3 while the Cardinal moved down one to No. 4 and Iowa dropped two to No. 6. Virginia Tech moved up three places to take over at No. 5. South Carolina, still undefeated at 27-0, remained at the top of the rankings with Ohio State at No. 2.

Texas and rival Oklahoma clash for a massive Big 12 Conference game Wednesday in Norman. If the Longhorns can get the win on the road, they’ll move into a tie at the top of the standings with the Sooners. For being a conference leader, the Sooners aren’t getting much respect in the rankings. They moved up three spots to No. 20 this week, but if they can take out the Longhorns at home, it would be huge for them and their NCAA tournament seeding. The Sooners already defeated the Longhorns this season in a 91-87 contest Jan. 24 at Moody Center.
Texas crushed Central Florida in Orlando on Saturday 87-56 after squeaking by Texas Tech 77-72 on Feb. 21 at home. After playing the Sooners, the Longhorns round out the regular season at home Saturday against BYU.
On the men’s side, the Longhorns didn’t get any votes in this week’s release. Houston moved up a spot to No. 1 after Connecticut dropped to No. 3. Texas is tied for ninth place in the Big 12 with Kansas State at 6-8 with four games left in the regular season.
The men’s team takes on Texas Tech at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Lubbock.
