The future of artificial intelligence and what it might mean for humanity is the subject of a scheduled talk this week at Utah Tech University, with the school inviting a specialist on the topic to speak as part of its "Human-Tech" speaker series.

Jennifer Keating, a teaching professor at the University of Pittsburgh, is set to deliver her presentation, "AI & Humanity: Shaping the Future," during a free public event at UT's Holland Centennial Commons building at 4 p.m. on April 13.

"Dr. Keating’s work on the impact of artificial intelligence on humans is timely and important," said Dr. Stephen Lee, dean of the UT College of Humanities & Social Sciences. "Keating’s insights about AI engines like ChatGPT will help us craft our own university’s response to this complex phenomenon."

Keating is the writing in the disciplines specialist at the University of Pittsburg. In collaboration with an artist and roboticist, she designed and taught courses like "Conflict and Technology" and "AI and Humanity."

The event is part of the UT Human-Tech speaker series, a collaborative effort between the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and the Division of Academic Affairs. Over the course of the school year, UT scheduled presentations that investigate the relationship between technology and society, part of the university’s mission to be “the only open, inclusive, comprehensive polytechnic university in the nation.”
