A Utica man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his mother’s death.

Abraham Zlap, 39, was charged late Thursday night, police said.

His mother, Fakhrieh Abdelghani, 71, of Utica, was found dead by police answering a domestic call to 7 Devereux St. around 3 p.m. that day, police said. Her son was in the apartment when police arrived and he was taken into custody then, police said.

The mother’s death appears preliminarily to have been caused by strangulation, according to police.

Other facts and details in the case will come out through the court process, police said.
