Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau released a statement on the horrific shooting that killed 19 children and three teachers at a Uvalde, Texas elementary school.
"My heart breaks for everyone affected by the horrific shooting in Texas today," the statement from Trudeau reads.
"I’m thinking of the parents, the families, the friends, the classmates, and the coworkers whose lives have been forever changed – Canadians are mourning with you, and are here for you."
Ontario Premier Doug Ford also released a statement on Tuesday evening.
"I’m horrified by the senseless shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas," Ford's statement reads.
"Tonight, all of Ontario grieves for the young children and teacher who lost their lives and with the moms, dads and families whose lives are shattered forever."
The 18-year-old suspect is also dead and allegedly also killed his grandmother before the attack at the elementary school.
"When parents drop their kids off at school, they have every expectation to know that they're going to be able to pick their child up when that school day ends," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said on Tuesday. "There are families who are in mourning right now."
"The state of Texas is in mourning with them for the reality that these parents are not going to be able to pick up their children."
Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat who represented Newtown in Congress, where the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred, made passionate remarks on the Senate floor Tuesday, advocating for stronger gun laws in the U.S.
"What are we doing? What are we doing?" Murphy said. "Nowhere else does that happen except in the United States of America, and it is a choice. It is our choice to let it continue."
Several people, including celebrities, also took to social media to respond to the tragic news from Texas.
Thoughts and prayers are not enough.
After years of nothing else, we are becoming a nation of anguished screams.
We simply need legislators willing to stop the scourge of gun violence in America that is murdering our children.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) May 24, 2022

Schools scared to death.
The truth is, one education under desks,
Stooped low from bullets;
That plunge when we ask
Where our children
Shall live
& how

14 children and a teacher have been killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Texas. Again, another school shooting. Again, mothers and fathers will have lost a child. Again, politicians will offer their "shock" and their "prayers".
We will move on in a week. Again.— Michael Steele (@MichaelSteele) May 24, 2022
Truly no excuse for this to continue happening, and yet it repeatedly does. Blatantly obvious that change needs to happen and yet it continually doesn't. This country can't even keep elementary school kids safe. Absolutely maddening and indefensible. https://t.co/jpPocMLka4

14 children killed today in a Texas Elementary school by an 18 year old with a handgun. But its okay because the gunman was killed by a good guy with a gun. you can buy that particular gun at your local Target store. Its right next to the detergent.
Fuck ban these weapons ffs— Daz Black (@daz_black) May 24, 2022
Heart broken over yet another school shooting today.
So much talk about the sanctity of life these past few weeks, meanwhile America is addicted to its death dealing machines. #GunControlNow— Liam O'Brien (@VoiceOfOBrien) May 24, 2022
So many times now we have children shot and killed at school. We have another teacher dead with them. 18 year old shooter in a state where right to carry guns is valued more than the life of children. gov abbott can’t explain this away. #GunControlNow #FreshWords

Parents don’t send their children to school for them to be shot and killed. I’m so fcking tired of this. Who is running this show? Make some decisions to make it stop . #GunControlNow #MentalHealthAwareness #Texas you can’t go anywhere. Not the grocery store, church 😢😢😢

Instead of summer vacations, these parents now have to plan funerals. NOTHING ABOUT THIS IS NORMAL.
