UW Health, UnityPoint Health-Meriter lift mask requirements in most settings

UW Health University Hospital at 600 Highland Ave. in Madison.

UW Health and UnityPoint Health-Meriter joined on Tuesday made masks optional in many areas of their clinics and hospitals, joining other major health systems in Wisconsin that have lifted requirements.

In areas including primary care clinics and outpatient care locations, masks will be encouraged, but not required, for patients, visitors and staff.

Masks will still be required in areas where patient populations are considered to be at high-risk of COVID-19 complications. Those include cancer, transplant and intensive care units, and other areas where patients have weakened immune systems.

Any areas where doctors are interacting with patients in hospitals will also require masks, but they are optional in some public areas like the hospital entrances, registration desks and cafeterias.
