STEVENS POINT – For the sixth time in school history, and first since 2013, UW-Stevens Point baseball is headed to the NCAA Division III College World Series.

The fifth-seeded Pointers are scheduled to face fourth-seeded Salisbury University on Friday at 1:15 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Sea Gulls are the reigning champion in DIII and earned their way back to Iowa by winning their super regional against Wooster. Stevens Point defeated Whitewater on the road by sweeping a best-of-three series in its super regional. The winner Friday advances to face either top-seeded Marietta or eighth-seeded Catholic, while the loser drops to the elimination bracket.

Individual accolades have rolled in as the Pointers' season has continued. D3baseball.com named four UWSP players to its all-region teams Tuesday, including Anthony Tomczak, Aaron Simmons, Sidney Ferry and Lucas Luedtke. Tomczak and Simmons were named to the first team, Ferry received second-team recognition and Luedtke took third-team honors.

Simmons was recognized for the third time after also being named to D3baseball.com's 2019 and 2021 teams. The senior outfielder from Franklin has hit .366 this year while slugging a school-record 20 home runs and drawing a program-record 43 walks. He was also named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference position player of the year and all-WIAC first team.

Tomczak was recognized for his strong first season with the Pointers, leading the team in hitting with a .390 average, .514 on-base percentage and 20 RBIs. The freshman catcher has also cut down 10 runners attempting to steal while tallying just one error in 179 fielding opportunities.

Ferry returns as a D3baseball.com all-region selection after earning fourth-team honors last year. The sophomore relief pitcher tallied a 5-0 record in 18 appearances, saving six games and earning a 1.89 ERA.

Luedtke, a senior, earned his first all-region recognition after a season in which he has hit .380 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs. The designated hitter slugged three home runs in the super regional clinching win over Whitewater.
