VA Clinic tested dozens of veterans for toxic exposure
Nov. 21—The Terre Haute VA Clinic recently hosted a resource fair for veterans. During the event, dozens of veterans were screened for toxic exposure they suspect happened while they were overseas in the military.
Benefits representatives from Veteran Health Indiana, based out of Indianapolis, also helped Veterans apply for VA health care and file for service-connected disabilities.
"I was in Vietnam around Agent Orange. I have COPD and a heart condition and came here today to get a toxic exposure screening and file a disability claim," said Army veteran Glenn Kiger of Rockville. The Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022 (PACT Act), expands VA health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances.
"Our mission is to bring these resource events to the communities where veterans live," said Jared Scott, VA outreach coordinator. "Veterans who couldn't make it today, should follow our Facebook page at Veteran Health Indiana. We have more community events planned early next year. Veterans who were previously denied benefits for exposures such as Agent Orange and burn pits, should reapply."
