Vacant Seventh Ward building destroyed in early morning fire
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A three-alarm fire in the Seventh Ward on Friday, Feb. 2, left a building destroyed.
The New Orleans Fire Department reported that around 1:11 a.m., firefighters were called to the 2000 block of Laharpe Street. Responders arrived on the scene at 1:16 a.m. to find a vacant two-story wood-frame commercial building with flames coming through the roof.

Firefighters said they assessed the potential threat the fire was to neighboring homes and called a second alarm at 1:21 a.m.
At 1:38 a.m., a third alarm was called after the building’s roof and exterior walls collapsed as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames from the outside, according to NOFD officials.
A total of 19 response vehicles carrying 51 personnel were able to bring the flames under control.
According to the NOFD, the building’s owners and residents in the area said they have been complaining about vagrants frequently in the structure.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
