You Can Vacation in a Grain Silo for $190 a Night
It’s not enough to be a regular hotel these days. The Instagram-obsessed era calls for unique experiences, like mirrored treehouse rooms in the sky, or this hotel that hangs off of a cliff. Why stay in a Marriott when you can sleep on croissant pillows in a Nutella-themed hotel? The grain silos-turned-cottages at Silos at 159 are no exception.
Located in Texas near the towns of Round Top and La Grange, this estate renovated three grain silos to create rustic cottages for guests. Nothing says enjoy a country-livin’ experience like sleeping in a literal silo.
The not-so-typical cottages reside on ten acres of land, which make them ideal for a countryside escape. Each cottage has one bedroom and one bathroom, and they comfortably sleep four people with a queen bed and a futon. The grain silo section of each is repurposed to serve as the sitting room. Inside, the spaces feature barnwood, metals, chandeliers, and other architectural pieces that give them loads of rustic charm.
For those who settle for nothing less than glamping, I feel you. Know that the bathrooms come complete with toilets, sinks, and showers. Other amenities include mini-fridges and coffee makers (which are, of course, very important).
Although Round Top’s population is small, with 91 people as of 2018, it’s known for its biannual, week-long antique fairs, and performances at the Round Top Festival Institute. So there’s plenty of art and culture to check out if you want to venture away from the cottages. They're also about halfway between Austin and Houston if you're looking for day trips from the big cities.
The cost of the rental varies depending on the season, but the average price is $190 per night. You can’t put a price on this creative cottage experience, though, right?
