Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday launched “Vax for the Win,” a new vaccine incentive program designed to motivate Californians to get their vaccination before the state’s reopening on June 15.
- Get vaccinated, win a cash prize. California is getting in on the action, giving people a monetary incentive to get that shot.
GAVIN NEWSOM: The state of California today is announcing the most significant incentive program in the United States of America. We're putting aside more resources than any other state in America, and we're making available the largest prizes of any state in America for those that seek to get vaccinated.
- The governor announced the Vax For The Win program here in LA this afternoon. It's meant to give an extra nudge to those still on the fence about getting inoculated. Right now, an estimated 12 million Californians who are eligible haven't gotten the shot. So here's what's at stake, on June 15th 10 people will win $1.5 million each. On June 4th and 11th, 30 people will each win $50,000 in the $50,000 Friday promotion. And beginning today, the next 2 million people who begin and complete their vaccinations will be automatically enabled, they'll be put into a drawing to receive a $50 prepaid or grocery card. All Californians over the age of 12 can participate. Any winners under the age of 18 will have their cash prize put in a trust until they're 18.
