New Vaccination Clinic To Open In Petaluma

PETALUMA, CA — A new coronavirus vaccination clinic opening Tuesday is one of three new COVID-19 vaccination centers slated to open within the next eight days in Sonoma County, officials said.

The centers will serve residents 70 and older, bringing to 19 the number of clinics being supported this week by vaccines from the County of Sonoma Department of Health Services.

The second clinic opens Wednesday in Windsor, while the third opens Feb. 16 in Sonoma.

"We are committed to continue ramping up our vaccine distribution effort to reach even more of our population in an equitable way," said Lynda Hopkins, Chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. "With these new clinics, in partnership with our health care providers, we can now start serving even more seniors who are most at risk at this time."

The new Petaluma vaccination center is in the Fitness Center at the Petaluma campus of Santa Rosa Junior College, 680 Sonoma Mountain Parkway. It opens Tuesday with a capacity of 300 vaccinations a day with partner vaccinator Petaluma Health Center.

The Windsor Vaccination Center is opening Wednesday at the Huerta Gym, 9291 Old Redwood Highway, Suite 200. It has a capacity of 300 vaccinations a day with partner vaccinator Alliance Medical Center.

The Sonoma vaccination site opens Feb. 16 at Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Hall, 126 First Street West. It has a capacity of 300 vaccinations a day with partner vaccinator Sonoma Valley Community Health Center.

There are four other county-supported clinics currently offering vaccinations for residents 70 years and older, except for the Rohnert Park site, which remains open to residents 75 and older. They are located at:

  • The Cloverdale Train Depot, in partnership with Alexander Valley Healthcare

  • Rohnert Park Community Center, in partnership with OptumServe

  • Grace Pavilion, in partnership with Safeway

  • Guerneville Elementary and Analy High School, in partnership with West County Health Centers

As announced last week, 11 Safeway stores across Sonoma County are scheduling appointments for eligible residents. In addition, CVS Health has said it will start administering vaccines to eligible populations at CVS Pharmacy locations in 100 communities across California, including the City of Sonoma. CVS said vaccinations will start Thursday at 201 West Napa St., Suite 35, and become available for booking as early as Tuesday.

According to SoCoEmergency.org, Sonoma County public health officials are coordinating with primary care providers on plans for expanding coronavirus immunizations beyond the initial phases of the elderly and frontline workers; health centers will contact patients about scheduling when the vaccine is available to them. When eligible for a vaccine, and not before that, residents will be able to make an appointment through their provider or at a vaccination clinic.

The number of coronavirus cases reported in Sonoma County since the pandemic began rose Monday to 26,836, including 277 deaths.
