Vaccination rate nears 53% in NM
May 18—SANTA FE — The state Department of Health reported just 155 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, well below the state's daily target of 210 cases or fewer.
The share of people 16 and older who are fully vaccinated climbed to just under 53%, pushing the state closer to its goal of 60%, the level that health officials say will trigger the lifting of capacity restrictions on businesses.
Also as part of its daily update, the state reported:
— Two more coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday — women in their 40s, one from Bernalillo County and the other from Doña Ana County. The state's official virus death toll now stands at 4,118.
— 150 COVID-19 patients in state hospitals, an uptick over the last few days.
