One student from Valencia College’s Culinary Art program plans to give back to the community this Thanksgiving with the Salvation Army.
Bruce Dorris graduated from the Salvation Army’s rehabilitation program, where he found a new passion for cooking.
“I’m doing great now and I’m a year sober,” he said. “It changed my life forever.”
Now, his college is working with the Salvation Army to prepare Thanksgiving feasts for those in need.
Certified master chef Alex Erdmann oversees the culinary program at Valencia.
He said that students and faculty have been preparing for this Thanksgiving feast since Monday.
“It’s about 2000 pounds of turkey. 2000 pounds of stuffing, we’re looking at 80 something gallons of sauce,” he said. “It’s not a big deal.”
Hot meals will be handed out at the Salvation Army starting tomorrow morning.
