Valentine’s comedy dinner theatre set at The Hawley Hub

HAWLEY - The Hawley Hub in downtown Hawley presents a Valentine’s dinner-theatre event showcasing The Ritz Company Playhouse in “You’ve Got Hate Mail'' over Valentine's weekend on February 11th, 12th and 13th.

The Off-Broadway comedy takes a look at the world of on-line hook-ups and break-ups when an extra-marital affair goes horribly wrong, thanks to an x-rated e-mail sent to the wrong mailbox. “This is a fantastic show for couples and friend groups alike. We’re looking forward to having an incredible time with the audience and expect to leave them smiling for days!” said Alison Hoffmann, an actress in the play.

Sandy Gabrielson, Director of the Ritz Company Players exclaimed, “The Company Players are thrilled to be presenting this hysterical, modern adult comedy at the Hawley Hub. The playwrights, Billy Van Zandt and the late Jane Milmore, became our close personal friends after we met them in 1980 when they came to the Ritz to see us perform their first published play 'Love Sex and the IRS'. It seems that we were the first theatre company in the country to perform their play and they were very excited to see it done on stage. Since then, the Ritz has performed more than half of the 23 plays written by Billy and Jane.

"We chose 'You've Got Hate Mail' for the Valentine's Dinner Theatre this year because the play deals with love, fidelity and modern day communication methods, in such a unique way we thought our audiences would really enjoy it," Gabrieson continued. "The play is considered to be adult entertainment and the characters use strong language to convey their feelings to each other. The kicker is that all the communications are made through emails or texts! We can't wait to entertain everyone this Valentines weekend!”

A buffet style dinner will be catered by Wallenpaupack Brewing Company and is included for dinner-theatre ticket types.

Wine and beer will be catered by Three Hammers Winery and Wallenpaupack Brewing Company. The buffet style dinner features a menu of spent grain pretzels, salad, beer-braised pulled pork sliders, buffalo-ale mac and cheese and an assortment of cookies and coffee for dessert.

Dinner will be served on the front ground floor level of the Hawley Hub at shared tables where seats are reserved in advance. The show will take place in the new event space at the Hawley Hub located on the ground level, to the rear.

Dinner begins at 6 p.m., followed by the show at 8 on Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday Feb. 12. Sunday, Feb. 13's dinner starts at 2 p.m., followed by the show at 4 p.m.

Tickets for just the show are $20 per person, and tickets for dinner and the show are $50 per person. Tickets may be purchased online at thehawleyhub.com or ritzplayhouse.com.
