WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Valentine’s Day has extra meaning for Sasha Saputo and Matthew Nicholas.

The couple from Arlington got married Wednesday at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“I think I told him very early on, like, ‘I think you are my husband,'” Saputo said before the ceremony.

They two met just before Thanksgiving in 2020 during the height of the pandemic on the dating app, Tinder. Their first date came on Christmas that year, which also marked the first time they saw each other face-to-face. Needless to say, it was love at first sight.

“I just saw myself being a better person around her,” Nicholas said. “She was an inspiration for me. Still is.”

The two got engaged on Dec. 10, 2022. The wedding would take place on the biggest day of the year, Feb. 14. But, it would be a small, intimate affair.

“We both have really high pressure jobs and I think at least on my side, I just really wanted like a fun, low pressure day. It’s just us,” Saputo said.

That’s what it was as the two were united in a civil ceremony, one of 14 couples who tied the knot, and have now started their new journeys as husband and wife.

The Nicholas’ will travel to New Orleans in April for work and a mini-honeymoon. They’ll take a traditional honeymoon later following a larger ceremony for family and friends in December.
