Based on the 1980 hit movie, this hilarious story from the Rolodex era with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton is office revolution at its best.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. Little do they realize how their choices will change their office — and their own lives — forever.

"’9 to 5 the Musical’ has everything audiences could want,” said Washburn Rural High School theater director Maeghan Bishop. “It's outrageously funny, the music will get your blood bumping, and the story will leave you feeling ready to change the world. Moreover, we've got a cast with huge personality and talent, and a pit orchestra that knows how to rock.

"Whether you enjoy 1980s nostalgia, Dolly Parton, or just a night full of laughter, you really won't want to miss jamming out at this show."

Performances are 7 p.m. Feb. 9, 10 and 11, as well as a 2 p.m. showing Sunday in the Washburn Rural High School Auditorium, 5900 SW 61st St.

Tickets are $7 to $9 and can be reserved online at warutheatre.org/ticketing.

Topeka West High School presents ‘Sister Act’

Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, “Sister Act” will leave audiences breathless. The cast is chock full of amazing roles for women of all ages, making this a perfect choice for high schools and community theaters.

A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, “Sister Act” is reason to rejoice.

“Many of us grew up loving the 1992 movie ‘Sister Act’ starring Whoopi Goldberg,” said Katie Murphy, assistant theater director at Topeka West. “This production will make you love ‘Sister Act’ even more. Complete with new music composed for the show, our students have put together an amazing experience. We are extremely excited to present this musical to the Topeka community.”

Performances are 7 p.m. Feb. 16, 17 and 18, as well as a 2 p.m. showing Feb. 19, at Topeka West’s Doug Goheen Auditorium, 2001 SW Fairlawn Road.

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Topeka High School presents ‘Amelie: Teen Edition’

‘Amelie: Teen Edition’ is based on the critically acclaimed French film of the same name. It follows Amelie, an imaginative and quirky young woman in search of a purpose in life after being isolated as a kid.

Through random acts of kindness, Amelie finds connection, friendship, and love.

“Amelie is a beautiful story about the importance of human connection that, especially in a post-COVID world, we can all relate to,” said Topeka High theater director Amanda Burr. “It has been wonderful to see the arts make a comeback after the COVID hiatus, but our students need their community support, so come see ‘Amelie: Teen Edition’ if for no reason other than to support students as they cultivate their creativity.”

Performances are 7 p.m. Feb. 16, 17 and 18 at Topeka High School’s Hoehner Auditorium, 800 SW 10th St.

Tickets are $8 at the door.
