Combine an evening of romance with charitable giving at the Shelby Rotary Club’s Love is in the Air Valentine’s Benefit Concert.

The event, which will feature singer Todd Murray and back-up musicians, will be held Feb. 14 and will deliver performances of Frank Sinatra-style music.

The concert will raise funds for the Shelby Rotary Club's service projects and to support the fine arts departments at Shelby High School.

Love is in the Air will be held at the Don Gibson Theatre with dinner at 6 p.m. The doors for the concert open at 7:30, and the concert starting at 8 p.m.

Todd Murray, based in Los Angeles, has emerged as a notable interpreter of standards, newer material and his own originals.

Joining Murray will be special guest Elizabeth Williams Taylor, a soprano and actress from Shelby who has enjoyed a professional career in Broadway musical theater, opera, classical, pops concert and stage as well as commercial film and TV. Taylor is a graduate of Shelby High and Converse College with a degree in vocal performance.

The Valentine's Day fundraising concert not only offers an enchanting experience but also contributes to local community initiatives. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the fine arts departments at Shelby High School, fostering creativity and cultural enrichment for the younger generation. Remaining proceeds will go toward the Shelby Rotary Club's service projects focused on addressing youth hunger and literacy in the community.

“The Shelby High theater department works to produce quality shows and provide meaningful experiences for our students,” said Dan Treharne, Shelby High theater director. “The support we receive from this event will go toward the costs of producing our plays and toward lowering student costs for outside events and opportunities.”

Tickets for the Love is in the Air concert are $35 per person, plus taxes and fees. For those seeking to elevate their experience, a VIP dinner and concert package is available for $75 per person, giving attendees a pre-concert dinner right on site prepared by local favorite, Clayton Wilkinson, of Taste of the Town Catering.

Both tickets can be purchased online at LoveisintheAirShelby.com or in person at the Don Gibson Theatre box office, located at 318 S. Washington St.

Adam Hohne, Shelby High band director, said funds raised from the event will go toward replacing instruments that are in current use and either beyond repair or when repair costs outweigh the cost of replacement.

He said the Shelby High band performs publicly throughout the year at football games, parades, concerts and other local events.

“I am glad to be in a position to offer support to the education of our young citizens,” said Bill Murray, Shelby Rotary Club member and concert organizer. “That support, be it in terms of money or hard work, has and will pay dividends by providing continued opportunities through the Fine Arts at Shelby High. They need to know that we care, and what better way than supporting the Fine Arts Department both as a community and as a Rotary Club?  Our motto at Rotary is ‘service above self.’ Through this fundraiser we are putting that motto to use to the benefit of the Fine Arts Department at Shelby High."
