Valley Metro bus crashes into Mesa home; residents, riders hospitalized

A Valley Metro bus veered off the roadway Monday night and crashed into a home near Broadway Road and Spencer Street in Mesa, leaving several injured.

According to Mesa police, a southbound Dodge truck on Spencer Street ran a stop sign and crashed into the left front portion of the bus going west on Broadway. As a result, police said, the bus veered left and crossed all lanes of eastbound traffic, hit several parked cars and stopped upon crashing into the home.

Police previously said two vehicles and a pickup crashed in the roadway, causing the bus to veer.

According to police, two people inside the house were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while three bus passengers suffered injuries from a possible broken rib, knee and back pain, and scratches and abrasions. Police previously said four bus riders were hospitalized.

A male and female inside the pickup truck fled the scene on foot prior to officers' arrival, police said.

Mesa police reported structural damage to the home, which the department said was fenced off for safety reasons.
