Vampire Diaries confirmed to return to Netflix UK

Netflix has confirmed that supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries will be returning to the UK streaming service.
Sharing the news via Twitter, the site revealed that all eight seasons of the teen vampire series will be available to watch from tomorrow (July 6). The news follows the confirmation that all seasons of Gossip Girl will also be returning on the same day.
Based on L J Smith's book series, The Vampire Diaries originally aired for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017.
The series starred Nina Dobrev as teenage Elena Gilbert, whose life was changed forever when she met and fell in love with Paul Wesley's Stefan Salvatore, a 162-year-old vampire.

However, their relationship was complicated by the arrival of Stefan's older brother Damon (played by Ian Somerhalder), who also developed feelings for Elena. That led to a complicated love triangle between the trio.
The series was a huge hit with fans, even launching the spin-off series' The Originals and Legacies, which explored the stories of several popular characters from the original show.

The Vampire Diaries developers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson also worked together on another fanged series, Vampire Academy. That show didn't quite reach the same level of success as The Vampire Diaries though, being cancelled by Peacock after just one season.
Plec and Williamson had most recently been working on another show together, Dead Day, which saw hordes of the deceased come back to life on one day every year to torment the living.
However, the show never made it to air, being eventually scrapped by Peacock a year after it was commissioned.
The Vampire Diaries will be available to watch on Netflix UK from July 6.
