Van Leeuwen Ice Cream To Open 2nd UWS Location In 2019

The Brooklyn-based ice cream company will open in an 850-square-foot space on Columbus Avenue and West 72nd Street in spring 2019.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An ice cream company that was founded as a single truck in Brooklyn continues to spread its reach throughout New York City. Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream will open its second Upper West Side location in spring 2019 as one of six new stores in the city, the company announced.

The Upper West Side's second Van Leeuwen will be located in an 850-square-foot space on Columbus Avenue near West 72nd Street, real estate firm Lee & Associates NYC said. Lee & Associates aided Van Leeuwen in securing a ten-year lease for the location.

"The quality of Van Leeuwen’s product is evident in the crowds that can be seen at nearly every location," Jaime Schultz of Lee & Associates said in a statement. "I believe consumers are mindful of choosing a quality product and that is linked to the success of the brand."

AJ Clarke Real Estate is the landlord of the Upper West Side property. Five other Van Leeuwen stores will open in the Greenwich Village, Hudson Yards, Murray Hill, Midtown and Prospect Heights neighborhoods in spring 2019.

Van Leeuwen serves up both vegan and dairy flavors made with simple ingredients. The dairy flavors are made of milk, cream, sugar and egg yolks whereas the vegan flavors are made of cashew milk, coconut milk, extra virgin coconut oil, sugar, cocoa butter and carob bean, according to the business' website.

"Van Leeuwen Classic and Vegan ice creams are made with just a handful of fresh ingredients. Each flavor is a celebration of some of the world's best artisan producers and farmers both local and from around the world," the website reads.

The company's ice cream is made in a factory in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
