Van Wert ranked No. 1 in first football poll

Van Wert is ranked No.1 in the state in the first Associated Ohio High School Football poll released Monday.

The Cougars (4-0) are coming off a 55-45 win over Wapakoneta and play St. Marys Friday.

Another Western Buckeye League team, Shawnee 4-0, were 12th in Division III.

Coldwater (4-0) owns the No. 1 spot in Division VI and Columbus Grove (4-0) came in at No. 9.

Marion Local was No. 1 in Division VII and New Bremen ranked No. 6 with Lima Central Catholic 12th.

Girls Soccer

Ottawa-Glandorf 5, St. Marys 0

ST. MARYS — Ottawa-Glandorf's Clara Beach scored twice and Makenna Siefker, Alexa Fortman and Bri Douglass added goals. Fortman also recorded an assist. Titan Keeper Abby Warnecke made four saves to preserve the shutout.

Shawnee 7, Defiance 0

Shawnee got two goals from Bri Ridenour and scores from Kennedy Jensen, Zoe Best, Kamryn Morris, Tayma Jmiai and Megan Carder. Chloe Cleaves recorded two assists and Avan Schaaf, Jensen, Cameron Ridenour, Best and Adelay Stover all garnered assists. Shawnee goalie Kaelen Swallow secured the shutout.

Continental 1, Delta 0

Continental's Bryn Tegenkamp scored the lone goal with Jensey Armey on the assist. Continental's keeper Marissa Becher made five saves to preserve the shutout.

Ottoville 3, Temple Christian 0

OTTOVILLE — Ottoville won 25-13, 25-22 and 25-20. For Temple Christian, Cecilia Worshm had seven kills and eight digs and Kaylee Linhart added six kills, nine assists and six digs. Emily Bontrager had nine assists and two aces and Jessica Holloway had 18 digs.

Bluffton 3, North Baltimore 0

BLUFFTON — Bluffton won 25-9, 25-17 and 25-19. Pirate Kyle Stackhouse had 10 kills, four digs and two blocks and Kyle Monday had six kills and three digs. Sklyer Scoles had 21 assists, one block and five aces and Avery Talvinia had five aces.

Leipsic 3, Fairview 0

Leipsic's Kasey Brough had 18 kills and two blocks and Peyton Heitmeyer notched six kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Serenity Siefer had 34 assists. Joce Hermiller had 18 digs and two aces and Marisa Hermiller added 12 kills.

Coldwater 3, Van Wert 0

COLDWATER — Coldwater won 25-16, 25-15, 25-15. Van Wert's Kayla Krites had six kills and two blocks and Sydnee Savage had five kills and six digs. Mariana Ickes had six digs and Finley Foster had 12 assists. Maria Gerhart had 11 digs.

Parkway 3, Crestview 0

ROCKFORD — Parkway won 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21. For Crestview, Myia Etzler had five kills and one ace and Laci Mcoy added four kills. Cali Gregory had 10 assists and Ellie Kline notched eight digs.

For Crestview, Evan Scarlett posted the low team score with a 43. Other Knight scores were Trey Skelton 46, Will Sharpe 48, Brady Petrie 5, Dru Gray 52 and Ethan Best 59.
