Apr. 24—OTTAWA — Winning pitcher Owen Treece allowed two hits and a walk while striking out seven in seven innings as Van Wert defeated Ottawa-Glandorf 4-0 Friday in high school baseball.

With the outcome, the Cougars and Titans are each 4-1 in the Western Buckeye League.

Treece also had a triple and an RBI. Kaiden Bates had a double and an RBI and Ethan Rupert and Aidan Pratt each had a hit and an RBI. Jacob Balbaugh and Jaxon Buddelmeyer each had a hit for O-G.

NORTH BALTIMORE — Winning pitcher Tyler Sickmiller allowed one hit and no walks while striking out 13 in seven innings.

Archer Jr. among

award recipients

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University freshman Montez Archer Jr. has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Special Teams Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Joining Archer on the first team is senior Dana Shoulders II. John Boyd III, Nolan Childress, Stephan Kosakowski, Markus Finley and Nick Perry all collected second team recognition. Darian Greeley, Keith Holmes Jr. and Hunter Lacer garnered honorable mention honors.

Archer's seven interceptions lead all of NCAA Division III. He is also tops in the country with 531 kickoff return yards and 234 punt return yards. His 21.3 yards per punt return is currently third in the nation.
