Vance County finalizes election results

Nov. 18—HENDERSON — The Vance County Board of Elections finalized the results of the midterm elections. Here's the data.

County government races

In the County Commissioners races, Democrat Sean Alston beat Gordon Wilder in the primary elections earlier this year, and

— ran unopposed in the fall. Commissioners and Republicans Tommy Hester and Dan Brummitt also ran unopposed.

— Vance Count

— y Sheriff Curtis Brame beat competitor Patrick Bailey by 4,000 votes.

— Thomas Farmer and Ardis Crews claimed the two available seats for Soil and Water District supervisor versus one write-in candidate.

— Republican District Attorney Mike Waters won re-election, having run unopposed.

— Democrat Ben Hunter ran unopposed for District Court Judge for District 9B.

— Clerk of Superior Court Henry Gupton and Register of Deeds Cassandra Neal ran unopposed in their respective races.

School board races

— Gloria White, Omega Perry and Ruth Hartness ran unopposed for districts 1, 6 and 7 respectively. Democrat Randy Oxendine beat unaffiliated Charlie Baskerville by about 500 votes for the District 2 seat.

North Carolina government races

— Incumbent state Rep. and Democrat Terry Garrison won a slim majority of Vance County voters, but overall lost his seat to Republican Frank Sossamon.

— In the state Senate race, around 1,000 more voters supported Democrat Mark Speed over Republican Lisa Barnes, who won the seat based on her district-wide showing.

U.S. government races

A decent majority of Vanc

— e County voters turned out to support Democrat Don Davis for the U.S. House of Representatives over Republican Sandy Smith. They got 7,333 and 5,579 votes respectively. Davis won.

— In the senatorial race, Republican Ted Budd got 5,620 votes in Vance County while Cheri Beasley got

— 7,097 votes. Budd won.

Judicial races

What follows is how many voters in Vance County turned out for each candidate and the ultimate result of each race.

— Supreme Court Associate Justice, Seat 3: Republican Richard Dietz earned 5,643 votes, Democrat Lucy Inman earned 7,246. Dietz won.

— Supreme Court Associate Justice, Seat 5: Republican Trey Allen 5,733 votes, Democrat Sam Ervin earned 7,123. Allen won.

— Court of Appeals Judge, Seat 8: Republican Julee Flood earned 5,724, Democrat Carolyn Thompson earned 7,150. Flood won.

— Court of Appeals Judge, Seat 9: Democrat Brad Salmon earned 6,833 votes, Republican Donna Stroud earned 5,991. Stroud won.

— Court of Appeals Judge, Seat 10: Democrat Gale Adams earned 6,953 votes, Republican John Tyson earned 5,865. Tyson won.

— Court of Appeals Judge, Seat 11: Democrat Darren Jackson earned 6,978 votes, Republican Michael Stading earned 5,822. Stading won.
