PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Vancouver City Manager Eric Holmes will retire after 17 years working with the city, and 14 years in his current position.

According to Tuesday’s release, Holmes will serve his final day as city manager on Friday, Oct. 11. He said his years working with Vancouver have been the “most rewarding” of his career.

“I have had the honor of working with multiple generations of elected leadership, exceptional talent across the City organization and built partnerships with community,” Holmes added in a statement. “I still have a lot to accomplish over the next several months and intend to see this work through.”

Officials said Holmes has led the city in developing the waterfront, the Heights District and even its workforce. The city manager was also accredited with Vancouver’s recent advances in areas like affordable housing and transportation planning.

Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle said city leaders are saddened by Holmes’ announcement, but grateful for his commitment to the community.
