Vancouver Fire responds to high-rise apartment blaze

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A fire at a high-rise apartment building in downtown Vancouver prompted a large response from the Vancouver Fire Department Friday morning.

Just before 10:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire in Smith Tower apartments at 515 Washington Street.

On arrival, firefighters upgraded the fire to a second alarm when they found smoke coming from the 10th floor. They climbed the building and immediately found the 10th-floor hallway filled with smoke and one room on fire.

Officials say they were able to extinguish the fire and windows were opened for ventilation.

One resident was displaced by the fire, but no injuries were reported.

According to Vancouver Fire, 12 fire engines, three trucks, and over 50 total personnel responded.

As of 12:30 p.m. Friday, Vancouver Fire is still on scene assisting residents and the Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
