Vancouver Housing Authority to give out 101 vouchers

May 18—The Vancouver Housing Authority will distribute 101 new emergency housing vouchers this summer to assist low-income households in Clark County.

As part of the American Rescue Plan, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is distributing 70,000 emergency housing vouchers for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Those fleeing domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking are also eligible.

The vouchers will be available after July 1. The Vancouver Housing Authority and the Council for the Homeless will determine prioritization via a referral system.

"The COVID crisis has illuminated the need of all levels of government to dig deep and work to meet the needs of those who were most harmed by the pandemic," Kate Budd, executive director of Council for the Homeless, said in a media release Monday.

"These 101 vouchers will do just that by permanently housing survivors of domestic violence, those experiencing homelessness and BIPOC community members. Working with the local homeless system Continuum of Care ensures those assisted are unhoused, highly vulnerable and receive ongoing supports once housed," Budd said.

Payments will be made directly to property owners or managers. Clark County landlords interested in participating can learn more at www.vhausa.org/landlords/prospective-landlords and register available units for free online at www.gosection8.com.
