Vanderbilt baseball at Georgia Bulldogs: Live score updates from Foley Field

Vanderbilt baseball is in an offensive rut that only deepened in a 1-0 loss to Louisville on Tuesday.

But the schedule doesn't get any easier as the Commodores (30-15, 11-12 SEC) head to Athens to face second-place Georgia (32-15, 13-10). Vanderbilt has won only one road SEC series this season, at Kentucky.

The Bulldogs most recently lost a series to LSU before winning a midweek against Kennesaw State.

Game results

Friday: Vanderbilt got off to an early lead and despite Georgia's attempts to chip away, the Commodores never trailed in an 11-9 win. Vanderbilt's offense tallied 16 hits, getting four from center fielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. and three each from right fielder Spencer Jones and designated hitter Javier Vaz. Sophomore Christian Little, making his first start of the season, was solid over four innings but some sloppy defense made things interesting in the later innings. Georgia loaded the bases with one out against Nick Maldonado in the eighth inning but closer Thomas Schultz came in and got a strikeout and flyout to end the threat, then shut the door in the ninth with only the second 1-2-3 inning of the day.

Saturday: Vanderbilt's offense did well against Georgia ace Jonathan Cannon and took a lead into the seventh inning, but an eight-run inning from the Bulldogs doomed the Commodores in a 13-7 loss. Starter Chris McElvain allowed four runs (two earned) in six innings with five walks and five strikeouts, but Patrick Reilly took the loss as he allowed a home run and a single without recording an out. Donye Evans was charged with five runs and freshman Ryan Ginther with two as the team committed four errors.
