Vanderbilt baseball score vs. Tennessee: Live updates from rivalry series

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Going into its rivalry matchup with Tennessee, Vanderbilt baseball has seen a reversal of fortunes from last season.

In 2022, the Commodores were swept by the Vols in Nashville. This season, No. 4 Vanderbilt (29-10, 13-4 SEC) hopes for a better result as it heads to Knoxville. But those hopes took a blow in the first game of the series as the Vols won, 4-3, on a walk-off home run in the 12th inning in the first game of the series. The second game was non-competitive from the start as Tennessee won, 17-1.

Tennessee (25-14, 7-10) has had a tough season after losing most of the position players off last year's top-ranked squad. The Vols are on the NCAA Tournament bubble while the Commodores are in contention for a national seed and had not lost a series this season prior to falling to Tennessee. But Tennessee has played well this season at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, with a 23-4 record at home.

A win for Vanderbilt on Sunday would keep the Commodores in first place in the SEC and snap the six-game losing streak to the Vols.

Both teams are coming off tough midweek losses, with the Vols falling to Tennessee Tech and Vanderbilt to Indiana State. Before that, Tennessee was swept by Arkansas and the Commodores took a series against South Carolina this past weekend.
