Vanderbilt baseball to wear helmet stickers honoring Jackie Robinson vs. UCLA

Vanderbilt baseball will be wearing "42" helmet stickers during its series against UCLA to honor Jackie Robinson as part of Black History Month, the program announced.

Robinson attended UCLA, where he played football, basketball and track in addition to baseball. He broke Major League Baseball's color barrier in 1947. The Bruins' ballpark is named in Robinson's honor.

Robinson wore No. 42 with the Dodgers and the number is now retired across MLB in his honor. College baseball players, however, can still wear 42; Vanderbilt freshman infielder RJ Austin wears the number.

Black History Month runs throughout February. The Commodores (3-2) take on UCLA for a series beginning Friday at 4:30 p.m., the first weekend home series of the season. Saturday's game will be at 1 p.m. CT and Sunday's at noon, with all games televised on SEC Network+.

Vanderbilt opened its season taking two of three in the College Baseball Showdown in Texas while UCLA began its season with a home sweep of Omaha.
