Vanderbilt baseball's Jack Leiter honored by Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

Former Vanderbilt baseball pitcher Jack Leiter will be honored as the Male Amateur Athlete of the Year for 2021, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame announced Thursday.

Leiter will be honored at a banquet in July held at the Omni Downtown Nashville.

Leiter had a 2.13 ERA in 2021 and co-led the country with 179 strikeouts. He was a unanimous All-American and finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. He led the Commodores to the national championship series and a runner-up finish, being named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team.

He was drafted No. 2 overall by the Texas Rangers in the MLB Draft in July and is now at the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders.

Leiter's rotation-mate Kumar Rocker was previously honored with Male Amateur Athlete of the Year in 2019. Former Vanderbilt ace David Price also won the award in 2007.
