Vanderbilt basketball coach Jerry Stackhouse: Tyrin Lawrence buzzer-beater 'favorite shot in my career'

Vanderbilt basketball coach Jerry Stackhouse said Tyrin Lawrence's game-winning buzzer-beater was his favorite shot of his career, playing or coaching.

Just over a week after losing to Alabama by 57, the Commodores pulled off the upset over No. 5 Tennessee, 66-65, when Lawrence hit the open corner 3-pointer with 0.1 seconds on the clock. Stackhouse said he saw divine intervention with the 57-point loss, which he called the worst night of his coaching career, and the best night of his playing career when he scored 57 points against the Chicago Bulls in 2001.

In the matchup with the Crimson Tide, Lawrence was benched due to a coach's decision. Stackhouse said that he was like a father figure to Lawrence, whom he wanted to push to be better.

"Might be my favorite shot in my career, playing and coaching," Stackhouse said. "It's just, things come full circle and it was, you know, a lot made about Tyrin and it's what didn't happen to him a week or so ago in Alabama. And now look at it. ... We don't even know it's cold outside, right."

Stackhouse also called the shot, which snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Vols, "the biggest shot of my tenure."
