Vanderbilt basketball coach Jerry Stackhouse refutes reports of Pistons job interest

Vanderbilt basketball coach Jerry Stackhouse responded via Twitter to reports that he had been linked to the Pistons job.

In response to a fan who had tweeted, "Please don't leave us," Stackhouse tweeted, "It's beguilement in the highest form. They have NO ACCESS to me or VandyMBB so they choose to cater to the irrational and divisive 5.8% of Commodore Nation." He also used a clown emoji to refer to the 247Sports report purporting his interest in the Pistons job.

Stackhouse played for the Pistons from 1997-2002 and worked under former coach Dwane Casey as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors in 2015-16. Casey moved on from the Pistons coaching job to a role in the front office, which led to Stackhouse being suggested as a replacement.

Stackhouse was named SEC Co-Coach of the Year in 2023 after leading Vanderbilt to a 22-15 record, its best since the 2014-15 season. The Commodores reached the quarterfinals of the NIT after just missing out on the NCAA Tournament.
