Vanderbilt basketball guard Tyrin Lawrence in transfer portal | Report

Vanderbilt basketball guard Tyrin Lawrence has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports.

Lawrence was the Commodores' second-leading scorer in 2022-23, averaging 13.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game with a 50.2% field-goal percentage, a 36% 3-point percentage and a 74.3% free-throw percentage. He had previously declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility but is not projected to be selected if he chooses to remain in the draft.

As it stands, Vanderbilt will be losing five of its top six and seven of its top nine scorers from the 2022-23 team that ended its season in the quarterfinals of the NIT. Jordan Wright (LSU) and Myles Stute (South Carolina) both transferred to other SEC schools, Noah Shelby transferred to Rice and Trey Thomas and Quentin Millora-Brown have also entered the portal. Liam Robbins, a First Team All-SEC selection, is out of eligibility.

The lone returners who played major roles on the 2022-23 team are point guard Ezra Manjon and forward Colin Smith. Incoming sophomores Paul Lewis and Lee Dort could also step into a larger role.

Vanderbilt has landed one transfer commit this offseason, from Lehigh wing Evan Taylor.
