Vanderbilt basketball, Jerry Stackhouse hire Anthony Wilkins as assistant

Vanderbilt basketball has hired former Georgia Tech associate head coach Anthony Wilkins as an assistant coach, the program announced Friday.

Wilkins replaces Adam Mazarei, who left to be an assistant at Cal.

Wilkins previously worked at Tulane as an assistant and Kent State as the director of player development. He also played for the Golden Flashes before pursuing a professional career overseas. He joins fellow assistant coaches Michael Curry and Andy Fox.

After five seasons working under Josh Pastner at Georgia Tech, Wilkins was not retained when Pastner was fired and new coach Damon Stoudamire was hired.

The Commodores finished 2022-23 with a 22-15 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT, where they fell to UAB. It was the second straight season advancing to the NIT quarterfinals. But there has been heavy turnover in the offseason, with six players in the transfer portal. Vanderbilt has landed one transfer commitment from Lehigh's Evan Taylor.
