Vanderbilt basketball landed a commitment from 3-star shooting guard Jason Rivera-Torres on Friday.

Rivera-Torres was deciding between the Commodores, San Diego, Fordham, FAU and Texas A&M. His commitment gives Vanderbilt a fourth commitment in the 2023 class, which now ranks 32nd overall in the 247Sports Composite and seventh in the SEC.

It also gives the Commodores more depth on the wing, something that's sorely needed with the transfers of Jordan Wright, Myles Stute and Trey Thomas.

With six players in the transfer portal after Vanderbilt's season ended in the quarterfinals of the NIT, the Commodores still have two open scholarships if there is no further attrition. Those spots are likely to be used on transfers at this juncture.

It's the second straight season Vanderbilt has had a late-cycle commitment. In 2022, Paul Lewis committed to the Commodores late and after missing time with a concussion, he grew into a solid contributor as the backup point guard, a role he's likely to reprise in 2023-24.
