Vanderbilt football flips 3-star RB AJ Newberry from Colorado

Vanderbilt football flipped 3-star running back AJ Newberry from Colorado on Tuesday, he announced on Twitter. Newberry had recently decommitted after Colorado fired Karl Dorrell and hired Deion Sanders.

Newberry also had offers from Georgia Tech, Indiana, Cal and Nebraska, among others. He provides depth at a vital position of need with Ray Davis entering the transfer portal. Just three scholarship running backs currently remain on the Commodores' roster, two of whom saw time in 2022.

From Grand Prairie, Texas, Newberry is the second running back in the Commodores' 2023 class after Sedrick Alexander, who is also from Texas.

With 18 commits, the class ranks 46th in the 247Sports Composite and 13th in the SEC.
