GERSON: Vanderbilt football faces unique challenge with Wake Forest's offense, Sam Hartman's return

Aria Gerson, Vanderbilt beat reporter

Wake Forest 45, Vanderbilt 31: The Commodores have enough in the tank to play with Wake Forest in the first half, but the offense ultimately runs out of gas as the Demon Deacons pull away in the second half against Vanderbilt’s undermanned defensive line.

Gentry Estes, sports columnist

Vanderbilt 38, Wake Forest 35: I’m choosing – tentatively -- to buy in to the improvement the Commodores have shown thus far in Clark Lea’s second season. Ask me again, though, Saturday night. We’re going to learn a lot from this game.

Wake Forest 35, Vanderbilt 25: While the Vanderbilt offense has surprised me in the first two games, I'm still not completely sold. The Demon Deacons had a strong performance in Week 1, and will probably get their offense loose early.
