Vanderbilt football's Clark Lea to throw out first pitch at baseball game vs. South Carolina

Vanderbilt football coach Clark Lea will throw out the first pitch at Vanderbilt baseball's series opener against South Carolina, the program announced Friday.

The football team just concluded spring practice with the spring game last Saturday. Lea himself also has some prior experience in baseball, having played at Birmingham-Southern and Belmont before transferring to play football with the Commodores.

In the spring game, the defense defeated the offense, 37-30.

The No. 4 ranked baseball team, meanwhile, will be taking on the sixth-ranked Gamecocks (29-4, 9-2 SEC) on Friday (6 p.m. CT, SEC Network+) with Bryce Cunningham the scheduled starting pitcher. Vanderbilt (27-6, 11-1) currently sits in first place in the SEC East while South Carolina is in second ahead of the three-game series at Hawkins Field.

The other two games of the series will be Saturday at 2 p.m. CT and Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, with all games on SEC Network+.
