Vanesa Hudgens Describes Meeting a Fan's "Intense" Mom

Reminder: celebs don't "owe" fans anything.

Having starred in one of the most popular Disney Channel movies of all time, it’s no surprise that Vanessa Hudgens has a pretty huge fanbase. But it turns out that her fans aren’t always respectful of the actor’s time — and that includes their parents, too,

While appearing on The Late Late Show With James Corden on Thursday, January 17, Vanessa recounted a particularly troubling encounter with a fan’s mom during the height of High School Musical’s success. “Parents will do anything for their kids, right?” Vanessa posited. “I remember one time in particular, I was running to my gate at the airport — literally running — and this woman was like, 'Oh my God, my daughter loves you!’”

According to Vanessa, she politely thanked the woman, who proceeded to ask for a picture of the Disney star. “I was like, 'I really can't right now, I'm trying to get to my gate,’" the 30-year-old recalled. "And she was like, 'Come on! You owe this to me!’” Of course, Vanessa didn’t owe this woman (or any fan) anything, and when the actor asserted that very fact, the mother reportedly swore at her. “And then she goes, ‘You're a b*tch!’” Vanessa told James. “I was like, ‘I’m sorry?’”

It’s important to remember that while it might be exciting to spot a popular celebrity in public, no one is entitled to a selfie or photograph. It’s certainly OK to ask (respectfully), yet it’s crucial to respect that celebrity’s response, and keep in mind that a "no" doesn’t mean they don’t care about their fans. Vanessa might be famous, but she deserves respect and privacy just like the rest of us.
