Vanessa Hudgens and GG Magree star in “Dead Hot: Season of the Witch,” an unscripted documentary film that premieres on Tubi on Friday, April 14.

The film chronicles the duo’s spiritual journey in Salem, Massachusetts, where they explore witchcraft, ghost hunting and connect with spirits. Both of them have had an interest in the supernatural for most of their lives, but the project came on during the pandemic, where they learned more about how ghost hunters, mediums and witches engage with the spiritual world.

In an interview with Variety, Hudgens shared that the film is different from her past works.

“It was a lot more personal than anything I’ve ever done. I’m not hiding behind a character as I normally do in films — this is me, exploring something that I am very passionate about," she said.

Hudgens said she hopes the film inspires people to have an open mind about the unknown.

“I’m hoping that it makes other curious people out there to be inspired to open their hearts, minds and soul. Trust their intuition and find a bit more peace in the unknown” said Hudgens.

Magree added, “The stigma is quite serious, so we wanted to approach it more in like a friendship and in a light way for people like us that are self-taught.”

The film is produced by Bunim-Murray Productions, the company behind reality shows like “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “The Real World” and “Project Runway.”

For Julie Pizzi, president of Bunim-Murray Productions, the film is an opportunity to see the supernatural from a different perspective.

Many of the ghost hunting shows are led by men, it was an opportunity to ground this in a really feminine point of view. There is so much power inside each human, and to see two young women really grow and embrace their own abilities and manifesting their own destiny, there’s something really great about grabbing onto your inner wisdom and power. And I don’t think that that’s always encouraged.
