High School Musical: Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron to reunite with cast for Disney singalong

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron are set to virtually reunite with their High School Musical castmates for a Disney musical special during the coronavirus pandemic, director Kenny Ortega confirmed.

Airing on ABC on Thursday 16 April, The Disney Family Singalong will see former Disney stars perform a number of their biggest hits from self-isolatoin, with special performances from Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato.

All of the core HSM cast, which also includes Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel and Monique Coleman have signed up to sing a group rendition of “We’re All In This Together”, although Efron was a late addition to the project.

“We couldn’t reach Zac until late but when we did, he immediately jumped in, of course,” Ortega told Deadline.

“Everyone we reached out to was quick – and you’ll see it in their spirit and the way they come together from their homes. They recognise this is an opportunity to strengthen spirits for those joining us for the broadcast.

“It’s a really nice fun coming together of a lot of young people that are banding together under the lyrics of this song for the show.”

Airing on Disney Channel in 2006, High School Musical made stars of Efron and Hudgens, releasing two more movie sequels and a Disney+ mockumentary spin-off, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
