Your letters to the editor for April 16:

No one is above the law, including Trump

Katherine Larson of Florence, SD, stated her opinion in Voices, Sunday, April 9 edition, which to me is very questionable! Freedom of speech in not under attack by President Joe Biden! As the first amendment is the right to free speech, but not the right to use it as a platform of spewing out lies. We are still suffering repercussion of the continued “big lie” that has been perpetuated by the former President Trump. He actually lost the 2020 election! Biden won via the Electoral Vote, as well as getting 7 MILLION more popular votes than what Trump received. President Biden is NOT the one that will be remembered as the man who destroyed our Constitution or Bill of Rights! Our Constitution is and has been under attack by the election deniers and Trump diciples ever since the 202 election. It was and is not President Biden who attempted to have the election results overturned and destroy the constitution, it was former President Trump!!

The Trump indictment Is NOT harmful to the balance between governed and government, as per the headline to Randy Amundson’s letter! Yes, Trump has announced his candidacy for the Republican primary, which he has the right to do, but NOBODY should be above the law when it comes the indictments, including the former President. And further his opinion is questionable, as Daniel’s was paid $130,000 to keep the affair out of the news, as per Daniels and the one that paid her the hush money has acknowledged. He went to prison for three years for being the fall guy that followed DJT’s directions. The former President did file for bankruptcy four times, which by law a right, but certainly not an indication of being a good business person. Randy stated in his response to a letter Steve Heisinger had in Voices, “accusing him of being a typical Trump hater.” Yes Randy, we prefer that we go by the Constitution of electing not selecting the President of the United States. After all it was not Steve or President Biden who attempted to overturn the 2020 Presidential election. I am a firm believer as Trump once said, “I could stand on 5th avenue in New York and shoot someone and my supporters would stick with me.”

It is time for Congress to put the good of ALL before their partisanship and self preservation. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely!

'Vanished in Vermillion' highlights trampled principle of legal system

Saturday, I went to Lou Raguse’ (former KELO reporter) talk and book signing for “Vanished in Vermillion” at Muddy Mo’s in Yankton. In 2004, during the ongoing “Biggest Law Enforcement Embarrassment in South Dakota History” (Back cover), it was clear to me that a key principle of our legal system was being trampled under boots: Innocent until proven guilty. The most despicable example — there are many others − of this in the book (p. 223) is when Assistant AG Oswald goes to the home of the parents of one of the girls and tells them point blank that he knows that their daughter was murdered by a distant neighbor. Oscar and Adele Jackson took that horrible false charge to their graves, believing that their daughter had been brutally raped and murdered. For those who do not know, in 2013, their daughter’s body was found in the missing car, under a bridge where the girls had run off the road on their way to a party in 1971.That was not a proud moment for South Dakota citizens.− Michael Snow, Gayville

How to submit a letter to the editor:

Letters need to be roughly 300 words, and will need to include first and last name, address, city and title. Addresses won’t be publicized, of course, but it’s a way for us to make sure those who submit a letter are who they say they are.

Letters will run on Sundays in print and online as we receive them. There may be moments, however, when we don't have any as we work to solicit interest and actively rebuild this part of our coverage for readers.

You can submit those to News Director Shelly Conlon by emailing sconlon@argusleader.com or submit them through our online form here, which also is sent directly to the news director.
