Vegetation fire burns 150 acres of vegetation near Camp Roberts

Firefighters are battling the Garrison Fire blazing in the southern part of Monterey County.

As of Monday at noon, the fire was 60% contained and had burned about 150 acres of vegetation, according to Camp Roberts Public Information Officer Keba Baird.

Smoke was visible from Highway 101, according to a Camp Roberts Installation Services Facebook post.

The fire started in a riverbed near Camp Roberts’ East Garrison, MATES. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Baird said.

Camp Roberts shut off power Sunday afternoon and restored it to some areas by 10 p.m., according to a Camp Roberts Installation Services Facebook post.

On Monday, power was restored to Camp Roberts’ Main Garrison on the west side of Highway 101. Power remained off at the East Garrison, MATES, where the fire started, Baird said.

Military personnel and first responders have access to Camp Roberts, a Facebook post said.

The Camp Roberts Fire Department, Camp Roberts Department of Public Works, Cal Fire Monterey, Cal Fire San Luis Obispo and the Ventana Hotshots are on the scene responding to the fire. No people or structures have been harmed by the fire, Baird said.
