Vehicle crashes into Ross Intermediate School causing 'heavy' damage

Emergency crews responded Thursday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a Butler County school building, dispatchers said.

The crash at Ross Intermediate School caused "heavy structural damage" to the building, according to Butler County dispatchers.

Dispatchers said the crash was first reported to emergency personnel just before 3 p.m.

A grandparent who was there pick up his grandchildren from the school accelerated into the building after his foot got stuck between the pedals, Ross Local School District Superintendent Chad Konkle told Enquirer media partner Fox19.

The room that was hit, which serves as the school’s therapy room, was unoccupied, the superintendent said, adding no one was injured. Dispatchers earlier told The Enquirer that two people had been injured in the crash.

The school will be closed Friday, Konkle said.

Ross Intermediate School serves more than 400 fourth and fifth-grade students in rural Butler County, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The Enquirer has reached out to the school district and will update this story as more information becomes available.
