Vehicle hits pedestrian ducking for cover from gunfire in downtown KC parking lot

Police were investigating a hit-and-run at a downtown Kansas City parking lot early Sunday after a vehicle dragged and possibly ran over a pedestrian ducking for cover from gunfire.

Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a hit-and-run driver about 1:40 a.m. Sunday at Ninth and Wyandotte streets, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had ducked down between two vehicles as shots were being fired in the parking lot, Foreman said. The driver of one of the vehicles then sped away, dragging or running over the victim, Foreman said.

The driver struck a parked silver Toyota Scion while fleeing from the parking lot.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition. Police continued to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
