Vehicle pulled from slough near Streeter, ND

Jul. 29—STREETER, N.D. — Jamestown Water Rescue pulled an abandoned vehicle out of a slough about a quarter mile west of here, according to Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser.

"We found a vehicle, we pulled the vehicle in, nobody was in the vehicle," he said. "While we were out there the owner had called and said that last night around 6 o'clock, they were traveling down the road and lost control and went into the water and didn't know who to call so they just left it."

Kaiser said the vehicle owner, who was not injured, was issued traffic citations and an accident report was created.

Lt. Sheldon Mohr with the Jamestown Fire Department said he and Fire Chief Jim Reuther went to the site at 52nd Street Southeast at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, July 28, with a remotely-operated vehicle. He said when they got to the site, they could see tracks going into a slough.

Shortly before 10:10 a.m., Water Rescue was called because divers were needed, he said. Six firefighters responded with 15 on standby if needed.

Mohr said two divers hooked the vehicle to a wrecker's cable and it was pulled to shore.

"We verified that no people were in it," he said.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol, North Dakota Game and Fish Department and Gordon's Interstate Towing also responded to the scene.

Kaiser said the incident is no longer under investigation.
