STORY: More people than ever are having to isolate this Christmas but for some it's normal to be alone during the season.
The sailors competing in the Vendee Globe are in the South Pacific Ocean on day 47 of the solo non-stop round the world yacht race.
Many of them posted video messages to mark Christmas Day with some even dressing up as Santa Claus. They all received gifts from family and friends to mark the day.
Apivia Skipper, Charlie Dalin, who received a Rubik's cube as a gift, is in the lead, narrowly ahead of Maitre CoQ IV Skipper, Yannick Bestaven who has decided to head north.
Dalin is unlikely to still be in front for the New Year with Bestaven beating into a north-easterly wind about 100 miles (160 kilometres) north-east of the Apivia boat.
